Examples of our more recent training topics:

Art Stewards Training

This conversational training brings local artists together to discuss common issues and interests. It is supported by prominent art and culture-based organizations in Fitchburg and the region, such as the Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg Cultural Alliance, Creative Cities Project, and Sitka Gallery.  Professional development topics for artists have included income tax preparation, marketing, fundraising and more. In spring of 2024, a training will explore affordable housing for artists, focused on the availability and application process for the Fitchburg Arts Community project, located at the three-building campus of the former B.F. Brown Middle School. Total training time: 16 hours.

Childcare Entrepreneur Stewards Training

This eight-week training guides participants through securing a state license from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) to operate a home-based childcare program. Trainers take a hands-on approach, checking in every week on participants’ progress in the application process and providing coaching to overcome obstacles. The goal is for participants to secure state licenses soon after training completion. The course is supplemented by a second training focused on developing an operational business plan. Fitchburg residents are also eligible for a small-business grant from the City of Fitchburg Department of Community Development. Total training time: 16 hours.

Civic Ambassador Stewards Training

In this training, elected officials, community leaders, non-profit board members and members of civic committees discuss how to transform our communities into better places for everyone to live, work and play. Public service and exercising the constitutional right to run for public office is emphasized. Total training time: 16 hours.

Environmental Stewards Training

This training brings together local environmental activists working on climate change, environmental protection, renewable energy, land conservation and carbon zero municipal and state plans. Coordinating with state climate change officials to develop local and regional projects that will help the state reach its carbon-zero goals by 2050 is emphasized. Total training time: 12 hours. 

Financial Stewards Training

In this training, financial professionals discuss how to develop a budget, save, invest and create wealth for our families and communities. It also explores how to create supplementary income streams through small business projects, with an emphasis on home childcare and food services. The training also introduces first-time home buying with support from the State’s Mass Housing agency. Total training time: 16 hours.

Mental Health Peer Stewards Training

In this training, licensed mental health counselors teach on the high levels of depression and stress experiences in our local communities. Instructors share information on mental health challenges and mental health management techniques, such as meditation, exercise, aromatherapy and how to better connect with nature.  Community collaborative approaches, such as support networks, book clubs and other collective activities are emphasized. Total training time: 16 hours.
